From a distance, the photo looks ok. And, truth be told, she looks much better than the average 40 year old woman out there. Especially today, with obesity being as rampant — if commonplace and “normalized — as it is.

But, having said that, to put herself in position to be compared to the original is almost unfair. The original pose made the Power album one of the most noteworthy hip hop album of the generation, simply because its cover model was probably the finest woman ever seen in that context. Her body was absolutely exquisite. Drop-dead stunning.

One area in particular, when viewed up close, tells the whole story in terms of the huge difference between the 20 year old Darlene and the 40 year old. The crotch and surrounding area, including the inner thighs, and where they come together.

*sigh*

Sorry to say. But reason enough to have canceled the entire project, altogether.

Nice as she may look — for a 40 year old — there is a reason why 20 year olds dominate the swimsuit modeling scene, and not 40 year olds. This is a classic example of that.

20 years later she still killing the game! Take a certain swagger to not only put on that type of swimsuit but to allow it to be compared to the original photos when you were in your prime. Props.
